Requirements:

• Candidates must possess a Senior Certificate/Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification. No prior experience is necessary.
• The role involves working with deceased individuals and requires the ability to perform shift duties, including weekends and public holidays. A fundamental understanding of the legislative framework governing the Forensic Pathology Service is essential.
• A commitment to the Batho Pele Principles is expected.
• A valid driver’s license, at least Code C1 with PrDP, is required. Basic computer skills must be demonstrated (proof is necessary).
• Additional competencies include effective verbal and written communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.

Duties:

• The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective and efficient collection, storage, and processing of bodies. This includes the safekeeping of the deceased, relevant documents, and personal belongings.
• The officer will safeguard evidence, information, exhibits, and property from death scenes.
• Assistance in facilitating an efficient forensic autopsy process, which encompasses evisceration, dissection, and documentation in accordance with established standards and guidelines under the supervision of Forensic Pathologists, is required.
• Responsibilities also include the safeguarding of exhibits, specimens, statements, and reports, as well as providing evidence in court when necessary.
• The officer will complete and manage statements and documentation throughout and following the forensic pathology process.
• Additionally, the role involves maintaining the facility and equipment in a hygienic manner in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards, as well as implementing and practicing the Batho Pele Principles.
